A GUIDE TO FAMILY POINTS

Getting started with family reward points

A family points system starts with a clear agreement: what earns points, and what those points can be used for. Try a small number of tasks, then adjust together.

01

Agree on what ‘done’ looks like

‘Put the blocks back in their box’ is easier to understand than ‘be good.’ Parents set the points. You do not need to put a price on every action.

02

Pick a wish that feels within reach

Start with one or two rewards you can follow through on, such as choosing a weekend activity. Consider both the reward’s cost and how quickly points can be earned.

03

Let each sibling choose their contribution

For a shared reward, agree on each contribution, check individual balances and confirm separately. One child’s points should not automatically be available to another.

04

Set it up in Shiya

Add tasks and points in Habits, create a reward in Rewards and review the balance or ledger in Piggy Bank. Growth points have no cash value and are separate from seeds used for story generation.
